Tha Thang:
The Inaugural Game of Beatdown Ball

The rain wasn't oppressive, but it was relentless. I arrived early and feared the partially submerged lot too wet for play. Ponzi, who was already waiting enthusiastically in the early Gloom, refused to accept my wavering determination and gave no recognition to the downpour…"We're here, let's play." His words of encouragement set in motion the first game of Beatdown Ball.

As game time approached a steady stream of Pax sloshed into the lot, and enough men braved the storm to form 2 teams.

The rules of Beatdown Ball are fluid at best. In theory it is a professional Wiffle Ball showdown with both teams working through a variety of exercises while playing. Most baseball rules apply, you can bean a runner out.

AT BAT BEATDOWN (AMRAP)
20x Cindy Swings
20x Curls
20x Cindy Squats
20x Overhead Press
20x Bent Over Row
Rinse & Repeat while waiting to bat
While on base… 1st SSH, 2nd Squats, 3rd Big Boys

In the Field Beatdown (EMOM)
Round 1 (× 5)
10x 4 Count SSH / 5 Merkins
Round 2 (x5)
20 LBC / 5 Burpees
Round 3 (x 5)
20 Squats 5 V-Ups

*there were some slight modifications due to rising flood levels

Additional Rules (many added on the fly)
– Caught Out = 3 Burpees
– Teams swap when entire line-up has batted
– when a homerun is hit the team in the field has to sprint the bases

Highlights – this was both ridiculous, and ridiculously fun. Thanks for playing along! NFF was a beast, he laser beam beaned several runners for long range outs. Finkle was fielding like a college kid who knows scouts are in the stands. Turtle and Sweetheart both were throwing heat with pitch speeds as high as 19mph. We had not one, but two father son combos on the field. Minnow stole his old man's thunder and robbed him of glory with an outstanding catch in the deep outfield. Flea and Rapinoe were lead off and cleanup respectively, both scoring every at bat. Lady Chablis brought the thunder with his big bat and tore around the bases like lightening turning a few singles into triples. Sparky never stopped moving and dominated the baseline from one exercise to the next. In a scene reminiscent of The Natural, Ponzi smashed a dent in the ball and tied the game in the finals seconds.

COT:
At the end of the game teams formed a line and then attempted to Indigenous Sprint the bases twice, then we returned to the COT.
Announcements – Easter Beatdown Saturday
