We started with some light stretching and recovery work, focusing on loosening up from the beatdown Loves delivered yesterday. That transitioned into a little Broga, some mobility work, and plenty of quality mumble chatter to get the morning started.
Tha Thang:
The PAX lined up across the parking lot and began working through a consistent set of exercises:
High Plank
Transition to Downward Dog
Hold for a 5-count
Return to High Plank
5 Merkins
After completing the sequence, a random exercise was announced immediately before execution, followed by a mobility exercise. Once complete, the PAX advanced one step and repeated the process.
A few of the random exercises included:
Cindy Swings
Goblet Squats
Goblet Lunges
Blockees
Single-Leg RDLs
Diesel Pumpers
And a few others sprinkled in for good measure
The mobility exercises rotated throughout the workout and targeted different muscle groups. During the process, the PAX helped establish a new mobility movement affectionately known as the "Code Brown." Details intentionally omitted.
To finish the workout, the PAX were introduced to the legendary Mindbender. For those HIM who showed up, it was pretty "cool." For those who didn't show, I guess you'll just have to come next time to find out what a Mindbender really is… or maybe not.
COT:
Scripture for the morning was Psalm 119:105:
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
We discussed the context of the lamp referenced in this verse. An oil lamp illuminated only a few steps in front of you. It provided enough light for the next step, not the entire journey.
A devotional I read years ago used this imagery to explain how we are to trust God's Word daily. We often want God to reveal the destination, the timeline, and the entire plan. Instead, He frequently provides enough light for the next step and asks us to trust Him with the rest.
This is a lesson God has been teaching me personally.
By nature, I am extremely goal-oriented. I identify a goal, build a plan, and focus intensely on reaching the destination. The problem is that once I reach the goal, I often find myself immediately focused on the next objective rather than appreciating where I am and what God has already done.
A few years ago, I spent a tremendous amount of time and effort working toward my current professional position. When I finally achieved it, instead of being content and grateful, I immediately started thinking about what was next.
God has been using this verse to remind me to focus on what is directly in front of me, enjoy the season I'm in, and continually seek Him for guidance. To enjoy the ride. To appreciate the blessings He has already provided through family, friends, ministry opportunities, and the work He has entrusted me with.
The workout was designed around that concept.
Throughout the workout, the PAX likely found themselves wondering:
Where are we going?
What's the next exercise?
Why are we doing this?
When is this going to end?
The reality is there was never a destination. We never even made it very far across the parking lot, as one of the PAX pointed out at the end. The intent was to simply focus on the current movement, the next exercise, and the next step forward.
Just like the Christian life, we don't always get to see the entire path. We simply trust God, stay in His Word, take the next faithful step, and allow Him to guide us where He wants us to go.
