Tha Thang:
It’s the end of August, and the unofficial end to the summer. The heat has been rising and we have been enduring the hardest time of the year to train. This workout was designed to raise our temperature – in fact, the heat increased as we moved up the field. Kinda like a thermometer. The PAX started at one goal line, ran to a designated yard line and back and then performed exercises in the end zone. Mimicking a "rising temperature"—the distance got longer, and the bodyweight exercises got tougher.
Round 1 (Getting’ Warm): Sprint to the 20-yard line and mosey back.
•20 Squats
•20 Merkins
Round 2 (Startin’ to Sweat): Sprint to the 40-yard line and mosey back.
•20 Squats
•20 Merkins
•40 Mountain Climbers
Round 3 (It’s getting hot in here – so what?): Sprint to the opposite 40-yard line (60 yards away) and mosey back.
•20 Squats
•20 Merkins
•40 Mountain Climbers
•10 Burpees
Round 4 (Starting to boil): Sprint to the opposite 20-yard line (80 yards away) and mosey back.
•20 Squats
•20 Merkins
•40 Mountain Climbers
•10 Burpees
•20 Jump Squats
Round 5 (Meltdown): Sprint the full 100 yards to the opposite goal line and back.
•20 Squats
•20 Merkins
•40 Mountain Climbers
•10 Burpees
•20 Jump Squats
•31 Big Boy Sit-ups (marking August 31st)
The Burnout: "Catch-Me-If-You-Can"
PAX divided into pairs for a high-cardio finish down the length of the football field. Partner 1 starts running backwards while Partner 2 drops and performs 3 Burpees, then sprints to catch Partner 1. Once tagged, they flip-flop roles. Repeat this back and forth for 4 total lengths of the field (2 full down-and-back gassers).
Then, we repeated this again – this time with 1 burpee…
Mosey to the flag and of course, we ended with some good ole Boat and Canoe.
COT:
Today we used the yard lines to simulate the rising heat of summer. We didn't stop when the distance got longer or when the reps piled up. We pushed through August, the hardest and hottest month of summer training. Discipline isn't built when conditions are perfect; it's built in the dog days when everything in your body tells you to stay in bed. As we turn the page on August and enter a new season, take this resilience home to your families, your workplaces, and your communities. Finish the year strong.
